Kids Get Arthritis Too
kids hands in the air

Happy Baby is a pose in yoga. You are on your back, grabbing shins, rolling on your back without a care in the world. That should be the condition of all babies and young children. But all children are not happy. A significant proportion over 350,000 in the USA suffer from juvenile inflammatory arthritis (JIA). JIA comes in many different forms but the end result is the potential for joint destruction and disability. In this prosperous country, suffering like this should not happen. Resources are needed to train doctors, pediatric rheumatologists, to care for kids with arthritis. A score of states do not have pediatric rheumatologists. Parents have to take their children hundreds of miles to get the expert care to prevent joint damage to their children. The next time a Senator or Representative from a state without a pediatric rheumatologist pronounces that the USA has the best medical system in the world, they should go back to their state to see if the parents they represent have to go to a neighboring state to get medical care for their children.

July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month. Let your Congressional representatives know the significance of the month. Tell them that Dr. B sent you. Kids across the country will thank you.
